Nathan leads Supercup pack at Oulton ParkAfter his dominant display at Silverstone in a British GT3 Ginetta G55, Nathan Freke was approaching the Oulton Park round of the Ginetta GT Supercup full of confidence that he could run to the front of the field despite a nine month absence from the series.

Saturday morning’s qualifying session became a tricky one for Freke in theplayer.co.uk supported G55 with a puncture and then a red flag breaking the session up and making it difficult to put together a strong sequence of flying laps. On just lap four Freke set what would be come his best lap time of the session putting him second on the grid for race one before the puncture and red flags marred any further progress.

Off the line in race one Freke got a superb start immediately moving into the lead by the first corner before setting about getting himself some breathing space from pole man Ingram. From there the battle commenced and Nathan had to use his superb race craft to keep the young hot shot Ingram behind who was clearly looking for any opportunity to pounce. Freke was playing a clever card as Mark Davies was now starting to make advances on Ingram who quickly found himself distracted as he had to defend his second place, allowing Freke to build some breathing space. Rounding Lodge Corner for the final time a clearly delighted Nathan Freke crossed the line taking the flag and a superb victory on his GT Supercup return.

Glorious sunshine continued into Sunday and thanks to his race one finishing position, Nathan lined up on pole position for race two and certainly intent on making it a double victory weekend. Another fantastic start off the line allowed Freke to lead from the off. Once again Nathan would have his mirrors filled with Tom Ingram’s front bumper as he tried to find any way past the Century Motorsport car. As in race one, Freke looked to be the class of the field, lapping competitively and defending his lead comfortably ahead of Ingram in second. In an almost identical situation to race one, Ingram now found himself under pressure from Mark Davies for second allowing Freke to move away from the pair and secure a fantastic second victory of the weekend at Oulton Park.

Speaking after the event, a clearly delighted Nathan Freke added: “This weekend has been mega. The team did a fantastic job getting the car ready and I was chosen to drive it at the eleventh hour when they needed a driver to prove that the car and the team are easily the best in the business. It’s fantastic that I’ve been able to give them the reward that they deserved for the lengthy hours of hard work that’s gone into it. A massive thank you to my sponsors Wiggle, theplayer.co.uk and Buckler Environmental Services Limited and of course my team Century Motorsport. Also to all the support I’ve had this weekend, it’s been fantastic and hugely encouraging. Once again I’ve proven my abilities as a winning driver with minimal testing both this weekend and in Silverstone recently in British GT, hopefully this can help us attract some interest in a potential long term British GT or Touring Car seat this season.”
